Located
halfway between the equator and the North Pole,
Maine’s western mountains rise to 4,000 feet and
surround the six large Rangeley Lakes, 111 ponds
and small lakes. Pure air and a setting that is
99% forest and water create a perfect
destination for every season. Activities for
young and old, athletic and not-so-active are
available.
The
Rangeley Lakes Region can be reached over
highways, directly by charter air service, or by
flying into Portland or Bangor and having our
drivers pick you up.
Spring features quality trout and salmon
fishing, abundant wildlife, and beautiful
wildflowers. Drives over scenic highways lead to
magnificent overlooks, and sight-seeing flights
offer panoramic views in summer. Mingo Springs’
rolling 18 holes challenge golfers. Tennis and
basketball courts resound to the bounce of
balls. Water sports draw visitors, and hikers
take in the Appalachian Trail. The Town,
Library, and Orgonon Museum plan children’s
activities, and the Historical Society offers an
understanding of rich local traditions. There’s
supervised swimming at Lakeside Park.
Fall
foliage blazes against a backdrop of evergreens
that creates a photographer’s delight and also
offers the area’s prime fly fishing experience.
Frost soon decorates the landscape, upland game
birds challenge hunter and dog, followed by
trophy-sized big game.
Winter snows open Saddleback’s lifts and Alpine
ski trails. By December, machines groom village
and mountain Nordic paths and 150 miles of
snowmobile trails. Snowmobilers gather for the
Northeast’s best riding, the January Snowdeo
capped by fireworks, a snowmobile parade through
Town, and ice oval races.
Rangeley is a perfect example of "Maine... the
way life should be."
